The March Reset: How I’m Resetting My Home and Habits

This March I decided to start a simple monthly reset routine to help bring more calm and consistency to our home.

The system is simple: a 15-minute daily cleaning routine, a weekly family reset, and a few small habits that prevent clutter from slowly taking over the house.

Because lately, clutter has been winning.

My house has felt like it’s in a constant state of disarray.

With two boys, a dog, and a blue-collar husband, things seem to get dropped everywhere — shoes by the door, backpacks on the floor, random piles appearing out of nowhere. Somehow every flat surface in the house seems to collect stuff.

Because I work from home, I’m surrounded by it all day. And that constant low-level chaos starts to creep into my stress, focus, and productivity.

Why I Needed a Reset

I ended the last two years feeling like nothing changed. I decided 2026 will be different, and part of the vision I have for this year is that I want a calm, clean, relaxing house that feels like a sanctuary not a dumpster fire - seeing stuff shoved into every corner and crevice is making me lose my mind.

Every month this year I am choosing a new habit to get consistent on. January was movement. February was about nutrition, tracking my macros, focusing on protein and fiber.

When I was thinking about what would make the most difference for March, I imagined myself sitting in a nice clean home and that’s when I decided March was all about consistency in the home and making it a nice, calming, welcoming place to be.

So that’s it. It’s time for a home reset routine to help us go from hot mess to sanctuary.

My 15-Minute Daily Cleaning Routine

The system is simple.

I set a 15-minute timer and clean whatever area is bothering me the most.

Sometimes that means:

• clearing the kitchen counters
• putting things back where they belong
• folding a load of laundry
• tackling one clutter spot that drives me crazy

Other days I simply walk through the house putting things away.

Why the 15-Minute Reset Works

The reason this works is simple: it prevents clutter from piling up all week.

Instead of waiting until the house feels overwhelming, a small daily reset keeps things from getting out of control.

The Saturday Family Reset

I also don’t want to be the only person responsible for keeping the house running.

So on Saturdays we do what I call a Family Reset.

We make a quick list, set a timer for one hour, put on some music, and everyone tackles a job.

That’s when we tackle the deeper cleaning tasks like:

• vacuuming the main living areas
• cleaning bathrooms
• changing sheets
• clearing clutter zones

What I Hope Changes

My hope is that by committing to this for a month, keeping a tidy home becomes easier and more automatic. I want things to feel calmer and have better focus while I’m working.

I’m hoping the kids like the feel of a clean house and will take more initiative to clean up after themselves. And just clean in general.

I want a home where I can just relax (or at least more than I do). There is just something about a room with a clean floor that makes me feel at ease.

So that’s my goal. One more step towards my dream life. Building this habit of consistently cleaning has already changed so much in just 5 days. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the month brings.

If your house has been feeling a little chaotic lately too, a small reset like this might make a bigger difference than you expect.
