5 Mindset Shifts That Helped Me Wake Up My Wild
Because your dream life doesn’t disappear — sometimes it just waits for you to come back to it.
When I was younger, I didn’t just dream about the life I wanted — I went out and lived it.
I saved up, got a working holiday visa, and moved to New Zealand. I chased waves in Australia, snowboarded in Vancouver, and built a life around adventure and freedom.
But somewhere along the way — through marriage, motherhood, and building a business — that part of me started to fade.
I tried to hold onto it in small ways, but the to-do lists got longer, and the space for me kept shrinking.
Eventually, I realized I didn’t have to go back to Australia or be on the coast to feel that sense of aliveness again.
I just had to be intentional. I had to wake up my wild — right here, right now.
These five mindset shifts helped me reconnect with that version of myself — the one who is brave, free, and full of possibility.
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from your spark, I hope they help you too.
1. Your Dream Life Isn’t Found — It’s Built.
I stopped waiting to stumble upon my “dream life” and started treating it like something I could design.
Whether it’s chasing sunsets on the prairies, surfing on the coast, or running a soulful creative business — it starts with one small brave step.
→ Try this: Ask yourself, What’s one tiny thing I can do today that feels like my dream life already exists?
2. Comparison is a Roadblock, Not a Roadmap.
Scrolling and comparing kept me stuck. But someone else’s highlight reel isn’t your to-do list.
Now, I use inspiration as fuel, not proof that I’m behind.
→ Try this: When you catch yourself comparing, ask: What part of this am I craving — and how can I give a version of that to myself today?
3. Confidence Doesn’t Come First — Courage Does.
Confidence is built by showing up before you feel ready. The more I acted bravely, the more I believed in myself.
→ Try this: Reframe your fear. Say to yourself, “This feels scary because it matters.” Then do it anyway.
4. Freedom Starts with Permission.
Permission to be who you are. To want what you want. To take a different path than everyone around you.
I gave myself permission to live outside the box — and that’s when I felt truly free.
→ Try this: Journal on this prompt: Where in my life am I still waiting for permission to be fully me?
5. Wild Doesn’t Mean Chaotic — It Means Alive.
Waking up your wild isn’t about being reckless — it’s about reconnecting with the truest, most alive version of you.
It’s joy. It’s peace. It’s movement and stillness and alignment.
→ Try this: Spend 15 minutes outside, no phone, no agenda. Just be. Notice how that version of you feels.
You don’t need to be fearless to live freely — you just need to start.
These mindset shifts were the spark that lit my fire.
If you’re ready to wake up your wild too… you’re already on your way.
